My Involvement in Our Group Project: Reflections on Design, Decisions, and Choices

  1. Why We Chose the Topic: Supporting Chinese Students in Adapting to UK Student-Centred Learning    When our group first brainstormed possible topics, we quickly realized that many Chinese students—including ourselves—had experienced a significant cultural and academic shock when transitioning into the UK education system. Compared to China's teacher-centred approach, the UK heavily emphasizes student-centred learning.    Many Chinese students feel uncertain, passive, or even frustrated when first encountering expectations such as open discussion, critical thinking, and independent learning (Fakunle et al., 2016) . This reality inspired our group to design a learning solution specifically aimed at easing this transition.  2. My Role: Designing the Quiz and Explaining Student-Centred Learning a) The Quiz Design    I took primary responsibility for designing the Quiz (Part 1 of the blog). I wanted an engaging and reflective tool that would help ...

How I Use AI: My Reflection on Its Value and Future Adaptation

Image
Introduction    As an Education student studying in the UK, my academic journey has been greatly influenced by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Over the past two semesters, I have gradually integrated AI tools into various aspects of my learning. In this blog, I share how I have used AI, the value it has added to my academic work, and how I intend to adapt my use of AI in the future. How I Currently Use AI 1. Academic Writing Assistance When starting essays, I often turn to AI tools such as ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas, explore different perspectives that help structure my outlines.  Once I have completed a draft, I use Grammarly to refine my language, correct grammatical errors, and enhance the overall clarity of my writing. Additionally, I rely on QuillBot for paraphrasing ambiguous sentences and improving the coherence and academic tone of my work. 2. Information Retrieval and Literature Review     AI summarisation tools allow me to quickly grasp the mai...

Integrating Design Thinking and Learning Design into Education: A Critical Perspective

Image
Introduction In the rapidly evolving educational landscape, "Design Thinking" and "Learning Design" have become essential tools for educators and curriculum developers in addressing complex teaching challenges(Bower, 2017). This blog adopts a critical perspective, drawing upon podcast content and academic literature to explore the application of these two concepts in education. Additionally, I integrate design thinking principles to propose strategies for optimization, fostering deeper reflection and innovation in the field of education. What is Critical Review? A critical review goes beyond mere content summary; it involves analysis, evaluation, and reflection to reveal the deeper logic, strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement in a text  (Wallace and Wray, 2016) . For instance, when evaluating a podcast, one must assess whether it accurately represents the core principles of design thinking or overlooks key theoretical models. Contrast This week, I read ...

Enhancing Teaching with AI: A TPACK-Based Approach

Image
Reflections on TPACK Audio: The Role of Technological Innovation in the Future of Teaching To adapt to the educational reforms driven by modern advancements and leverage new technologies in teaching, the TPACK framework offers a fresh pedagogical perspective. This blog will integrate insights from audio recordings on TPACK, delve into its core concepts and practical applications, and reflect on the use of NotebookLM as a learning aid. By doing so, it aims to provide diverse perspectives for individuals exploring the field of education. 1. Introduction of TPACK The TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) framework is a model that helps educators integrate technology effectively into their teaching. Developed by Mishra and Koehler, it highlights the essential interplay between Content Knowledge (CK), Pedagogical Knowledge (PK), and Technological Knowledge (TK) (Mishra and Koehler, 2006) . Rather than viewing technology as an isolated tool, TPACK emphasizes how technology sho...
